Shift assignment settings
When creating or editing a shift Work period in WFM that has a definite length. assignment, you can view or update attributes that define the shift assignment.

Shift |
Indicates the work rule for the shift. The work rules Rules in WFM that determine how employees are scheduled, and reflect both the needs of the organization and the individual employees. displayed in the drop-down field are defined in the Work Administration module (under Work Rules, Shifts) for the selected organization. |
Activity |
Specifies the activity Core component of both schedules and time records in Workforce Management (WFM). When an employee performs any kind of work, activities specify the scheduled work and capture employee adherence to their schedule. with which the shift is associated. The activities displayed in the drop-down field are defined in the Work Administration module (under Activities, Activities) for the selected organization. |
Start |
Defines the start date and time of the shift. The possible start times of the shift are defined in Work Administration module (under Work Rules, Shifts) for the selected organization. |
End |
Defines the end date and time of the shift. When you update this field, the system updates the Duration field automatically. |
Duration |
Defines the length of the shift. The maximum duration of a shift is 36 hours. The duration of the shift is defined in the Work Administration module (under Work Rules, Shifts) for the selected organization. When you update this field, the system updates the End field automatically. |
Time zone |
Read-only field that reflects the currently selected time zone setting (either user or campaign Collection of scheduling periods in WFM, which are defined time periods where specific employees target specific workloads. time zone). |
Comment |
Provides a free text field to add notes about the shift assignment. |
Locked |
Indicates whether the shift is locked. To prevent the scheduling engine from moving shifts during rescheduling, lock the shifts. |
Overtime |
Indicates whether the entire shift is considered an overtime shift. Overtime shifts are different from non-overtime shifts with overtime extensions (OT extensions). When this field is selected, the OT extension Overtime (OT) extension in WFM, which can be added before or after a shift to extend employee work time. fields are not available, as the whole shift is considered an overtime shift. OT extension |
Defines the name of the OT extension. You can either select a predefined OT extension, or add a custom OT extension. To add a custom extension, remove the text in this field and select the required activity (in the Activity field). The predefined OT extension names displayed in the drop-down field are defined in the Work Administration module (under Work Rules, OT Extensions) for the selected organization. |
Activity |
Defines the activity of the OT extension. The activities displayed in the drop-down field are defined in the Work Administration module (under Activities, Activities) for the selected organization. If you select a defined OT extension, the activity defined for that extension is displayed in this field. |
Duration |
Defines the length of the OT extension in the time format, HH:MM. The maximum duration of an OT extension is 24 hours. |
Gap |
Defines the amount of time between the end or beginning of a shift and the OT extension. |
Total duration of an assignment cannot exceed 36 hours
An assignment includes the duration of a shift + gap duration + durations of the OT extensions. The total duration of an assignment cannot exceed 36 hours.
For example:

Create a shift with a duration of 30 hours.

In Extension before:

For Gap, enter 2.

For Duration, enter 5.

The total assignment duration is 37 hours, which exceed the 36 maximum total amount. The system displays an error message, and prompts you to update the values to equal 36 hours in total.
